Celebrating Our History

St Hilda’s holds a remarkable collection of school photographs and historical images, with annual school photos dating back to the early years of the school. More recent photographs, digital archives and contributions from the Old Girls network add to this valuable collection. Our galleries will allow you to explore the school’s heritage offering a nostalgic window into life at St Hilda’s across the decades.

We also welcome contributions from former pupils and families. Your memories, stories and photographs form an important part of our shared history, and we would love to include them as the archive grows.

Events and Reunions

The year 2026 marks an exciting milestone — 135 years of St Hilda’s. To celebrate, we will be hosting an Alumni event bringing together former pupils, families and staff to mark this special occasion. Further details will be shared with the Alumni community once confirmed, along with information about future reunions and opportunities to reconnect in person.

We hope these events will give old friends a chance to catch up, rediscover the school, and celebrate the traditions that have always made St Hilda’s such a special place.

We were delighted to welcome author Nizrana Farook to school this week for an inspiring day of storytelling and creativity.

During an assembly with Forms I to VI, Nizrana shared some remarkable facts about the animals featured in her books, giving pupils a glimpse into the extensive research that underpins her writing. She explained how important research is to create authentic and engaging stories, and how learning about the animals in her adventures helped bring her characters and settings to life.

Later, pupils in Forms III, IV, V and VI took part in exciting writing workshops, where Nizrana encouraged them to craft vivid setting descriptions and begin developing their own adventure stories. Her enthusiasm, imagination and practical advice inspired our young writers to think creatively and approach their writing with confidence.

A huge thank you to Nizrana for such an engaging and memorable visit. We are sure our pupils will be inspired to keep reading, researching and writing long after the day has ended!

Our girls enjoyed another action-packed chapter of sport before half term, showing determination, resilience and brilliant team spirit every step of the way.

👟 Our athletics season continued apace with two home fixtures for Forms V and VI against Sherrardswood. After tackling a carousel of field events, the girls took to the track for shuttle relays and 200m races, before the top two finishers from each heat returned for a thrilling 100m final. The perfect ending? Handmade biscuits from the SHS kitchens and plenty of smiles all round.

Form V girls Isla B and Georgia E also represented St Hilda’s at the Wheathampstead 2K. Isla finished 7th (33rd overall out of 473 competitors) and Georgia 10th in the U11 girls category, despite both still being U10. Isla produced a particularly memorable run after losing a shoe halfway round and completing the course with one trainer on her foot and one in her hand!

🏏 On the cricket pitch, our Form V and VI girls enjoyed away fixtures against St Francis’ College and Abbot`s Hill. All the girls had the opportunity to bat, bowl, wicket keep and field, rising to the challenge against strong opposition. A special mention goes to the U11 A team who came close to chasing down a strong target, finishing just two runs short.

🏑 In hockey, our U11 girls competed in the ISA Mixed Tournament at Old Loughtonians — and, as the only all-girls team, produced an outstanding performance. Three wins from four qualifying games secured a place in the Cup semi-final, with the girls ultimately finishing an excellent 4th overall. A particular well done goes to Sophie Mc, who donned the goalkeeper kit for the very first time and showed tremendous courage and commitment in scorching heat.

💦 Finally, congratulations to Immi D who represented St Hilda’s at the St Albans District Schools Swimming Competition, winning bronze in 50m freestyle, silver in 50m butterfly and gold in 50m backstroke. She will now represent St Albans at the Hertfordshire County Schools Championships.

A huge well done to all. Whether competing, supporting teammates or stepping bravely outside their comfort zones, you continue to make Team St Hilda’s proud.

Whilst the House Song - posted previously - may be one of the most eagerly anticipated categories, House Music is so much more than one performance. From Junior and Senior Piano to Instrumental and Voice, girls from across the school took to the stage to represent and win points for their Houses.

A huge congratulations to all of our competitors, who performed so beautifully across the many categories that make up this much-loved St Hilda’s tradition.

And, after a fantastic afternoon of music-making, the overall House Music crown for 2026 was awarded to…

From sprints to throws, jumps to relays: our girls gave it their all at the ISA London North Athletics Championships.

Held at Bedford International Athletic Stadium, athletes from Forms IV, V and VI travelled to compete in this large-scale national qualifier, taking on a full programme of events.

With a huge number of schools and participants in attendance, the girls represented St Hilda`s brilliantly — showing determination, focus and unwavering support for one another throughout the day.

There were many personal and season’s best performances to celebrate, podium finishes for three competitors (Lucy R - gold in long jump; Lizzy H - silver in 60m; Zinnia G - bronze in vortex), and two fantastic national qualifications: congratulations to Lucy, who has secured her place at the National Finals in the long jump, and Lizzy, who will be heading to Nationals in the 4 x 100m relay this June.

Fast times, strong throws, soaring jumps, two tickets to Nationals and tremendous team spirit. Not a bad day’s work for team SHS!
